Tecolotito is an agave spirit distilled from 5500 lbs. of mature Agave Tequilana farmed and harvested in November 2023 by the ranch of Stan and Stephanie Giorgi in Glen Annie Canyon, Goleta, CA. It was steamed, fermented without bagasse, and double pot distilled at our distillery in Ventura.

We are offering this single batch distillation of Tecolotito in 3 formats - Blanco, Reposado (Aged 9 months in an ex-bourbon cask), and an ultra limited gift set (100 total) which combines both the Blanco and Reposado expressions with two hand made copitas in a custom wooden display box.

As we always note, Tecolotito is NOT Tequila as it is neither made in the Mexican DOT region (Denomination of Origin Tequila) nor produced under the regulations dictated by the Tequila Regulatory Council of Mexico. Rather, this is a California grown and distilled Agave spirit which pays homage to the traditional Mexican spirit while still representing a distinct and flavorful new expression of the category.

I guess I misunderstood, I thought I was getting a set in a box (that was pictured) with 2 small shot cups. I'm sure this was my mistake, though.

A missed opportunity

This agave liquor is good but it is a missed opportunity, all tequilas imported from Mexico are required to have a 40% alcohol content but most tequilas produced within Mexico are 38% or lower so they raise the alcohol level which effects the flavor to export it to the US. I was excited to see that Ventura spirits was doing an agave liquor because they aren’t beholden to the 40% law but was disappointed to find they made it at a burning 42%.
